Dogara Absent As President Buhari Meets Gbajabiamila Group

President Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday  night, convened a closed-door meeting with 30-man delegation of the 174 All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the House of Representatives loyal to Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila over the steaming leadership crisis in the National Assembly.

The meeting with the Gbajabiamila group, was to set the stage for the President to lead the peace moves at tomorrow’s scheduled National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the party. The progress of the meeting scheduled to commence at 8.30 p.m. could not be ascertained at press time. The meeting started when Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo arrived the First Lady Conference Room venue around 9.45 p.m.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was absent from the meeting.

The Presidency had earlier yesterday confirmed that Buhari would meet with the two factions involved in the impasse. But only Femi Gbajabiamila’s faction attended the meeting which took place at the First Lady Conference Room of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

However, when contacted, the Special Adviser to the Yakubu Dogara on Media and Public Affairs, Hassan Turaki, told correspondent on telephone last night that his boss did not receive any invitation for the meeting.

Gbajabiamila who was the choice of the (APC) for the post of the Speaker of the House of Representatives lost the election for the seat to Yakubu Dogara, who defied the party’s directive to contest for the seat.
